On Your Bike

A bloke at work has a disabled son, who suffers from Kabuki Syndrome. The chap in question is a nice guy and is always doing things to raise money for the equipment his son needs and for the specialist unit at the hospital that treats him. Like most people I put my hand in my pocket when he does his sponsored bungee jumps etc.

Now I get along well with him, we have a laugh and a joke about football and suchlike. He knows I am a fit and healthy geezer.

You may or may not be wondering why I am telling you this.

It’s because he has hit upon his most ambitious scheme yet. He is organising it now so it’s still in the offing but he wants a group of people from work to ride bicycles between Sheppey Train Station and Sunderland Football Club. Because we wont be able to use motorways and have to stick to A roads, the journey is one of 350 or so miles.

I’ve agreed to go and you know what? I’ve not been on a bike since I was 13.

I may end up with a sore harris! If and when the time comes, I’ll be hitting many a peep up for sponsorship.
